The Arizona Freedom Caucus called on the Arizona Library Association to cut ties with the “woke, extremist” American Library Association (ALA).
The American Library Association is the world’s oldest and largest library association. The association states its strategic advocacy directions include literacy, diversity, and equity of access, information policy and intellectual freedom, and professional and leadership development.
According to the American Library Association, its funding comes from membership dues and funds generated from publishing activities, educational programming, and grants.
The Arizona Freedom Caucus’ plight follows the Montana Library Association withdrawing its membership from the American Library Association earlier this month in direct response to the group’s president Emily Drabinski describing herself as a “Marxist-lesbian.”
The Arizona Freedom Caucus, it applauded the Montana Library Association’s decision to cut ties with the American Library Association and encouraged the Arizona Library Association to do the same.
“The Arizona Library Association should follow Montana’s courageous leadership on this matter and cut all ties with the corrupted ALA,” the Arizona Freedom Caucus said.
The group said that too many libraries have become involved in the continuous cultural battle that targets American children with sexually explicit materials and activities.
“Too many libraries have been on the wrong side of the ongoing high-sakes cultural battle, as sexually explicit materials and activities have increasingly targeted American children at a place that has traditionally been safe in enriching,” the Arizona Freedom Caucus said.
According to the group, this cultural battle is only worsened by the American Library Association’s radical president Drabinski who has a frightening agenda for the nation’s libraries and children.
“The ALA elected as its president the radical Emily Drabinski, a self-described “Marxist-lesbian.” With Drabinski comes a frightening agenda for our nation’s libraries and children, “queering the landscape of library publishing and scholarship,” the Arizona Freedom Caucus said.
The Arizona Freedom Caucus says that most Arizonans disagree with Drabinski’s vision and that the American Library Association should replace her.
“The overwhelming majority of Arizonans vehemently disagree with Drabinski’s vision for our libraries and our children. She should be replaced. Stop sexualizing and radicalizing America’s children. Fire Drabinski, Arizona Library Association, leave the ALA,” The Arizona Freedom Caucus said.
Earlier this month, a new national organization launched, The World Library Association, to serve as an alternative to the American Library Association. The World Library Association, which is open to public and school libraries, provides parents involved in legal disputes over sexually explicit content in public and school libraries with financial help and assistance.
State Senator Jake Hoffman (R-Queen Creek) chairs the Arizona Freedom Caucus, which consists of nearly a third of the 31 Republicans in the state House. According to Hoffman, the caucus’ goal is to combat both the Left and “establishment GOP that refuses to answer to the will of the people.” The Arizona Freedom Caucus is part of a coordinated national effort that already includes six other states.
The Arizona Sun Times contacted Hoffman for additional comment but did not receive a reply before press time.
The Arizona Sun Times also reached out to the Arizona Library Association for comment as to if it plans to withdraw from the American Library Association following this request. The Arizona Library Association did not reply with comment before press time.
